As a kid, I had only seen seasons 1 and 2. I'd heard about 3 but never saw it. Now thanks to Netflix, I've discovered that Season 3 is kinda my favorite and Riot is god. Great work, man! These are beautiful.
Thank you SO much for that!! I saw the "JEM" cartoon in reverse order, thanks to cable TV. "Riot's Hope" was my third exposure to the show and I was a Stingers' fan HARDCORE ever since. Watching the show in order is very strange and I find myself skipping a lot of the sappier episodes. For me, "Jem" was a Stingers' vehicle.
Oh yeah! I was shocked to see Hector Ramirez at the Awards show when Jem told him to get lost! I love little touches like that! It also makes my dirty mind go crazy...like, what if Riot was in the Army with some of the Joes?! How HOT would that be?! What if Rapture was a covert Joe operative? What if Minx worked on some of the tech for the Transformers? What if Techrat was a COBRA agent?!
Ah-- yea it must be different for you. I grew up a hardcore Misfits fan and totally preferred their songs to the Holograms, (Surprise Surprise and Takin' It All are my anthems.) I admit to feeling like the Singers kinda stole the Misfits thunder, but I kinda can't ignore Riot's power. Easily one of the most intriguing characters of the show and of the 80's toon era in general. Actually all the characters in the show were strong and multi-faceted-- I find myself liking them all (except for maybe Reya.)
I wish there were more episodes with all 3 bands and in a perfect world, the movie would feature them all although I get that it may be too many characters for most audiences. But just completely leaving out the villains is a huge mistake. These new movies gave us Cobra and Decepticons, why no Misfits? What's gonna be the conflict?
I'm sure the conflict in the new Jem film will be all the sugary-sappy-bubblegum woes of "Oh, Rio doesn't love me!" and "how will we pay for our 'horde of brats'?"
The Stingers were meant to be a conflict group for both bands. The friction of Pizzazz always having to choose between Riot and the Misfits would have been cool to see. I always saw Riot as gay, myself. After all, he was pursuing the ONE woman he knew wouldn't give him the time of day - perfect beard! His relationship with his father was typical of a gay man. Joining the army? What was he hiding? It was perfect but Jem fans become rabid at the thought of the Golden One being gay. I always thought the Stingers were the most well-thought out characters on the show. They all had flaws and mystery and still, found themselves working well together.
